Blood: The Last Vampire

Blood : The Last Vampireis one of those natural process flick whose faults can be overlooked in favor of some entertaining action . There are plenty of problems to be find here : From cheesy dialogue and acting to the sometimes fake - look CGI . But when the pic is in full - on natural action mode - that is , a young woman in a schoolgirl getup hacking up vampires - it ’s a lot of merriment . And the fact that it stands at a tidy 90 minutes will mean it ’s well re - watchable .

base on the 2000 anime movie of the same name , Blood : The Last Vampirefollows a half - human , half - lamia called Saya who spends her time hunting those who are half her kind : Vampires . Loosely working with an establishment known as " The Council " which devotes itself to the hunt and killing of vampires obliterate amongst the human population , Saya enrolls in a high school on an American army base in Tokyo .

Proclaimed by Saya herself , the only reason she lives is to hunt down and vote down the " former and most brawny demon , " known as Onigen , who she believes was responsible for for the end of her sire when she was very young .

Blood_ The Last Vampire (2009) - Poster

Most ofThe Last Vampireseems like padding in between each action scene . The dialogue is pretty lame at times ( sometimes downright heart - pealing ) , and the storyline does n’t have much to it other than a generic revenge plot . It also suffers from some not - so - bang-up acting at time , with an army general and one of " The Council ’s " agents being particularly questionable in the carrying out section .

But does all that really matter in a movie calledBlood : The Last Vampire ? The name ( along with all the promo material released for the pic ) promise natural process , not an Academy Award - worthy drama . And that ’s on the button what we get for the most part : The action scenes are very well choreographed , which is n’t surprising considering the cat who is credited as the " action director " here is Corey Yuen , who mould on the first twoTransporterfilms ( which , if nothing else , were telling in the fight scene department ) and a few Jet Li moving picture . Three action / fight tantrum inThe Last Vampireparticularly stand out , one involving Saya ’s mentor battling a dozen guys in a forest , another being a successiveness in an skittle alley , and the last being the obligatory bigger - than - the - rest destruction battle chronological sequence .

More buckets of blood than you’re able to count are spilled in this movie ( as you would expect with " blood " in the title ) , although the blood spattering is an expanse where the cartoonish CGI dampen the film . Perhaps it was on role that the blood should reckon bogus to give the ferocity that cartoonish palpate , but I would have much prefer if they had gone theShogun AssassinorKill Billroute and used spraying blood set up by material - biography devices as pit to create it on a computer . But again , the way the action is choreographed , along with the fact that the movie does n’t really focalize on the bloodline all that much once it ’s flying through the air , sort of makes that weakness finally not matter all that much .

Blood: The Last Vampire review

I was afraid going intoThe Last Vampirethat there would be an overutilization of the conducting wire - body of work style of action fit we take care inCrouching Tiger , Hidden DragonorHouse of Flying Daggers . And although it ’s used a little here and there throughoutThe Last Vampire , it ’s never used too much . I do n’t needfully dislike that style of action , but personally it pluck me out of a motion picture more than " realistic action " does ( if you could call flipping through the atmosphere and chopping the heads off of vampires " naturalistic " ) . Most of the action scene comprise of swordplay , and many , manyvampires and all other kinds of demons cause their consistency slashed and heads chop off .

Playing the jumper cable - killing lady , Saya , is Korean actress Ji - hyun Jeon , who is run by the more " Westernized " name of Gianna Jun for this movie . This is her first activity purpose , and a big change from the character of films she ’s mostly known for ( romanticist comedies and dramas ) . But she is an adequate lead , doing what call for to be done . Again , it ’s not a persona that calls for Oscar - worthy acting but rather the sentence that she can kick back some serious ass … and trust me , she does so inspades .

What must be noted is the beautiful filming here by Hang - Sang Poon ( Fearless , Kung Fu Hustle ) . It gives a overnice , unusual contrast to the bloody ferocity happening on - screen . At times the moving picture look cartoonish , but since it ’s based on , yes , acartoon , perhaps that was a purposeful homage to the source textile . A ridiculously silly rooftop chase sequence aside , the toon quality of the film just add to the playfulness a heap of the clock time .

So , even ifBlood : The Last Vampirewon’t be get ahead any act or screenplay awards , it ’s nonetheless a fun picture show with some very entertaining natural process sequences . It ’s an entirely forgettable movie and never is it what you would called " great . " But for what it is , it ’s fun .

Was there really anything else to be require ?
