Criminal Minds
In the extremely - populated landscape of television procedurals , Criminal Mindshas continuously managed to stand out above the balance by consistently delivering challenging story of the morally corrupted and mentally disturbed . Last season , “ The Replicator ” ( Mark Hamill ) terrorise the BAU by recreating the crime of their past case , at last head to a showdown where Strauss ( Jayne Atkinson ) , the BAU Section Chief , became his last victim . With the top spot of the unit open , and a stick out cannibal on the loose , is CBS ’ sleeper goby hit on its way to a season 10 renewal ?
In theCriminal Mindsseason 9 premiere , “ The Inspiration ” ( Part 1 ) , executive producer Janine Sherman Barrios waver a macabre tale about a paranoid , methodical orca named Wallace ( Fred Koehler ) who - through externalise cannibalism ( who knowthatwas a thing ? ) - attempt to destroy ( in the most ghastly manner potential ) his greatest predator : women .
“ The Inspiration ” is n’t the most complicated case the BAU has ever been called in to investigate , nor is their investigating all that thrilling . In fact , this premiere is what one could call BAU - lite , wherein everyone ’s favourite intimate cast takes a ( literal ) buttocks to the more compelling narration of the UnSub ’s self - destruction . Though more office - based investigations are n’t typically as exciting as ones where the team is able-bodied to put their feet on the undercoat , so to speak , Koehler - who is already beloved in theDeath Racefranchise - does an impressive problem leading the episode as well as his part , Wallace , through the gruesome indulgences of a deranged gentleman’s gentleman .
The instalment , though highly well - constructed , does , however , leave behind little sentence for actual progression of the core throw up storyline : the replacement of Strauss . Criminal Mindshas never been that great with its female extremity , no matter how crucial their portrayals are , and the personnel casualty of Strauss - arguably the most underutilized distaff member of the BAU - is n’t a storyline that should be extended . ( Though it will , until episode 4 , when Matt Cruz ( Esai Morales ) becomes the new BAU Section Chief . )
All is not lost , however , as the instalment construct good exercise of a twisting ending which will require the BAU to return to this investigation next week . Of of course , a repeat of the installment from the week before is never really all that fun – and that , thankfully , is where Camryn Manheim comes in . Nowadays , if Manheim is going to appear on a show , it ’s move to be for a reason . That cause , regrettably , has yet to be revealed - but since Manheim is playing the part of Wallace ’s female parent , and Manheim has the power to easy abuse into darker role , there ’s more than enough intellect to be excited about what ’s to follow from the mother of a madman in next workweek ’s sequence .
Sitting at the ripe former age of 9,Criminal Mindsis still considered part of the adjective heyday that was created byCSI : Crime Scene Investigation ’s popularity , yet it ’s still one of the few ( saveNCIS ) that is capable to earnestly occupy its TV audience , year after year , season after season . And yes , though the cast has gone through changes ( some not so nifty ) , at its sum it ’s still one of the most thrilling procedurals you ’ll find on internet television .
Criminal Mindsreturns next Wednesday with " The Inspired " ( Part 2 ) @9pm on CBS . you could see out a trailer of next week ’s instalment below :
