“I Couldn’t Be Happier”
ScreenRant : Congrats on season 2 . I ’m so excited that we ’re perish to get another 22 episode . What was your reaction when you heard the news ?
Jon Ecker : I was elated . I do n’t know the proper word . We were very frantic . Jon Ecker : I do n’t mean you actually see what ’s going on in there , do you ? There were different rewrites of the ending , all kind of in the same realm , whether we just see Jake ’s reaction , we see what they ’re doing , or whether they ’re just in the room together . But irrespective , yeah , he catch them together .
I think it ’s just hurt . plain , Jake has a story with unfaithfulness . It does n’t get explore too much in the first season , but it gets mention that he has an ex - wife and dealt with infidelity . So , I think it ’s maybe a conversant feeling that just offend .
I ’m kind of odd about where they ’ll go with it . Jake is a very understanding somebody , and while it may take a little while , I think he ’s blend to understand why Amy kind of vanish back into Michael ’s arm , given everything that occur . She ’s so emotionally fragile that he feels like a safe space and a shelter for her after lose eight yr of her memory , even though that they ’re not together .
Jake ’s kind of got to understand . Even though we ’re in love and we have chemical science , and I think I ’m better for her than him , she ’s also – in her head – only known me for a few week . It ’s kind of understandable that she feels drawn to this one matter that she knows in life , so I do n’t how he ’s going to juggle those two sentiments .
So you think his feelings for Amy are definitely still there ?
Jon Ecker : Oh , decidedly . And that ’s going to cause the pain , but at the same fourth dimension , I think he ’s a very empathetic someone who can empathize where people are coming from . He ’s going to be hurt by it , but also be like , “ You necessitate some solid ground and he feel like substantial ground in that moment . ”
I do n’t know if that will permit him to needfully forgive her , but I think the writer did a groovy caper throughout the season with all the character , make nbody really a bad guy or a good cat . Everybody just kind of makes mistake , and I suppose he ’s going to understand that , with Amy , it ’s not some malicious thing that he ’s cheating on Jake . She ’s just dealing with a lot right now .
It ’s really interesting that you said the writer were figuring out how much they require to show [ in that scene . ] It was blurred when you see Amy pulling him in . Do you feel that will be speak ?
Jon Ecker : I mean , either way of life , they ’re after hours in his office staff moderately closely together . Whether or not they ’re make out or it ’s an intimate billet , that ’s going to hurt . Obviously it ’s unlike if they ’re just hug over experience sex on Michael ’s desk , but either direction it ’s going to hurt . It ’s definitely infidelity .
Amy & Michael Could Lead To More Developments In Jake & Sonya’s Dynamic
“I’m Sure We’ll Explore That In Some Realm”
Sonya also seems to have some feeling for Jake . Do you see Jake ever want to be with someone who is n’t Amy ?
Jon Ecker : I definitely think that some face of that plot line will most likely get explore . Where they ’ll go with it , I do n’t cognise . Sonya obviously has feelings for Jake , but he ’s been somewhat oblivious about it because he ’s been blind by his sexual love for Amy .
I do n’t roll in the hay if this would be a slap in the fount or [ if ] something else happens that will make him see Sonya in a different illumination , and how he ’ll experience about that . If he ’ll be concerned or not , or if he ’s just resigned to be single for a while , I do n’t get laid , but I ’m sure we ’ll search that in some kingdom .
Where do you desire the show is going with that storyline ?
Jon Ecker : It ’s hard . I think , if I ’m Jake ’s mom , being like , “ What do I want for him ? ” I think a slightly healthier and more stable relationship would in all likelihood be the smartest way to go , even though our emotions do n’t make the serious conclusion . But getting involved with a coworker who has a mob with somebody else who we also crop with is definitely not the smartest musical theme , so I would probably suggest to him to maybe find somebody outside of the infirmary and have a little moment of a healthy kinship . But the heart wants what it wants .
Ecker Hopes Richard Comes Back After Being Suspended
Especially As The Writers Grew Empathy For The Character Throughout The Season
There is going to be a major change to the hospital now with Richard being freeze . We learned more about why he was so jumbled when injecting Bill Dixon . Do you cogitate that he is reformable , return everything that we ’ve acquire about him this season ?
Jon Ecker : I think he is in spades redeemable . The writers did a heavy job , and I had so much fun talking to family and friends that would be like , “ I just do n’t like that Richard reference . ” Scott ( Wolf ) is amazing at what he does , but the character was just so unlikeable at the beginning . Then , as the sequence go by , you ’re slowly like , “ Oh , I get it . He made a misapprehension and he ’s render to save his kinfolk and his career . ”
It ’s like , “ It does n’t justify it , but he has some redeeming quality , ” and I think that was just a great kind of hook - and - trade that the writers did there . But is it excusable on a professional level ? I do n’t sleep with how they ’ll do that , if they can do that . I would be stoked to see a way to do it , because I had a lot of merriment working with Scott . But I do n’t know . I ’m as curious to read episode 11 as everybody else .
Ecker Praises The Doc Writers On Their Nuanced Character Portrayals

Jon Ecker : I do n’t have an official thing , but I think it ’s go to be sometime in the summertime . I think the idea is that it would come back in the fall , so [ we ’ve ] got to get started sometime around then .
