It was just one of the most someone - sucking , demoralizing experiences I ’ve ever had . And especially being 15 at the time , it was such an inbuilt part of my development . And it just made me very insecure and really solidified in my own principal that I was not a right actress and that I was just a pretty face .
“ When I went into Dazed and Confused , I was shocked that I make the part . It was a great audition , all these really great actors were there . It was terrifying because I was at a really scurvy breaker point with my authority levels in myself , and it was gruelling to feel comfortable with the amount of incredible natural endowment on that pic because I just did n’t feel like I was anywhere near to being able-bodied to go top dog - to - head with any of them .
“ So I was kind of a loner and I brought my guitar and I just played music on my own . And I believe Richard [ Linklater ] liked that . It ’s probably why he engage me was to just be that loner biddy that fume grass and play guitar because that ’s really what I was and what I act in the movie . ”
