The novel movie depicts the 90 minutes before the first episode ofSNLback in 1975 , revealing what it took to get such an iconic show to air . As such , I feel as though it would be good to watch over the actual installment itself before heading to the theater .

On the whole , it ’s not so surprising that the first appearance episode is n’t perfect , as the show was understandably still finding its invertebrate foot . However , Iwasquite surprised that more than a few elements of the show ’s kernel DNA start with this first installment ofSaturday Night Live , especially given its 50 - year bequest .
