Hoffman was the original successor to John Kramer ’s Jigsaw in theSawfranchise , but that part should have been fill by another character . Sawwasn’t suppose to spawn a sequel , and if it had been , creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell likely would n’t have given that made the character a last illness . Tobin Bell ’s Jigsaw built pernicious trap designed to test his victim ’s will to live - and pain in the neck survival - but by the end ofSaw III , he was killed himself . His replacement was unveil to be Detective Hoffman ( Costas Mandylor ) , a secret apprentice who acted as the main villain forSaws IVtoVII .

While Kramer still boast in flashback inlaterSawmovies , his absence seizure was keenly felt . It did n’t assist that Hoffman was kind of a obtuse eccentric . He had none of the emotion or ruth of Kramer , and outside of seemingly enjoying the annoyance he inflicted , minuscule reason to carry on with the Jigsaw mantle . If the serieshadto bear on past Kramer ’s demise , it should have made Amanda ( Shawnee Smith ) the new Jigsaw . Despite her love for John , she was shown to be conflicted when testing victims , feel they all deserve to die . This would have made for a more interesting active move forwards .

Saw VIIsaw Hoffman on the run after being exposed as the young Jigsaw and practically becoming the Terminator in the process .
