Based on a short story by Russell Wangersky , Sharp Corneris a psychological drama that premier atToronto International Film Festivalon September 6 . Jason Buxton adapted the narration into a screenplay and made it his second characteristic film directorial endeavour , build on his already exciting repertoire . How Sharp Corner Went From Short Story To Feature Film

Screen Rant : Sharp Corneris based on a short news report , but was it brought to you in rescript to try out , or did you stumble on it yourself and decide to adapt it ?
Jason Buxton : I was looking for cloth to accommodate after my first feature , Blackbird . I would go to chapters every twice a week and roam the aisles reckon for Canadian employment , and I come across Russell Wangersky ’s collection Whirl aside , which I call back had been shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize just a year or two before . I consumed four tale stand there in the store , and my original idea was to do a Magnolia type story where there were multiple storyline that would converge at the end , and Sharp Corner was one of those stories .
But as I developed Sharp Corner , it became more than a third of a motion picture or a half of a movie . It exact and needed a deeper geographic expedition , and it became a hundred - varlet hand .

Jason Buxton : I think it ’s because I ’m concerned in what lies within this shadow mental object that people have . We all feel like we ’re adequate to of doing bad act , but I think we have a personal responsibility to do the best we can in our lives and not to harm other people . The cautionary narrative are crucial because I guess Josh is a valet de chambre who has not lived an examined life . I do n’t think he knows how to , and he ’s trying to memorize how ( in the context of the film ) in baby step . We see him slowly descend .
My editor program described it really well , " Josh is like a car crash in dim motion . " And I think that ’s what ’s hopefully gripping for audiences that are move to see this . They ’re become to mistrust where this is go , and desire he does n’t , but also maybe go for he does . It meet on that tensity of exploring the saturnine side of humanity .
Screen Rant : Rachel is such a earthing force for the film , even if she ca n’t save Josh from himself . What madeCobie Smulders right for that function ?
Jason Buxton : Cobie ’s a very self - mindful someone who can differentiate it how it is , and I recollect Rachel need to be that kind of mortal .
