Jocko Simms : Part of what ’s very fascinating for me is that this is a substantial billet in Grosse Pointe , Michigan , and we have one of our very talented , amazing showrunners , Bill Krebs , who ’s from there . And then you have Jenna Bans , who come from compose on Desperate Housewives . And to bring the two of them together to make this show is adept . It ’s incredible .

She ’s like the one somebody she can confide the most , as a cop , to avail her hatch up this murder she ’s a part of . And to me , that encapsulates the beauty of their moral force , whether you empathize it or not , just fuck that she run to him for service , and he helps her in the most serious circumstances .
He ’s there for her , and it ’s just beautiful . It ’s a beautiful matter . When I read that , I was like , " Oh , what a terrific relationship . " I do n’t have it off that I ’ve seen that before or told this path before , inevitably , and I just conceive that was so cool . And to be able-bodied to play that cat has been a real honor . I ’ll play Joel all day long .

Another relationship I encounter interesting is Joel and Ford , because we learn Joel is his stepfather . Are we going to find out more about that dynamic ?
Matthew Davis : Yeah , you ’ll definitely see more of Joel and Ford and the Father of the Church - son relationship , stepfather - son family relationship . Again , part of what resonate for me , I ’m a father of two girls , and so that caretaker , defender , begetter energy is very alive in me right now . And so it ’s easy to spark that in him and see that sparkle in him .
Being a good Father-God to Ford is paramount to him . It ’s what ’s maintain him in his married couple . He ’s in this drained union . His married woman and he are just not connecting . There ’s no intrigue , there ’s no romance , there ’s nothing there except , essentially , co - parent . And then Birdie render up , and it just blows the doorway off of everything . His life really kind of begins then .
