Tracker
Warning : This article contains SPOILERS for Tracker time of year 2 , episode 16After a week ’s faulting , Trackeris back . This week ’s installment is a scrumptiously creepy repugnance movie in toy , but I ’m not certain how to feel about the return of a favorite character . Last episode , Trackersaw Colter ( Justin Hartley ) reconnecting with more than one sure-enough friend , and while the episode itself was on the tedious side , it had me fantastically excited because it suggest at a bigger story for Bobby . This hebdomad , the show does a complete 180 , with an installment that was gloriously blood - curdling in the chief delivery , but which resolved Bobby ’s takings in a disappointingly unglamourous means .
" The Mercy Seat " begin without any of the usual " find the casing " preamble , but with Colter already trudging through the snow with a Search & Rescue acquaintance , on the lookout for two miss snowboarders . It seems to be a straightforward backwoods search at first , but cursorily begin weird with a upper-case letter W. A mysterious man with antlers lurking in the woods , gunfire and tripwires in the snow , a chemical group of young people in a cabin who give off serious horror movie vibe , and finally , a " Padre " figure who is doing unspeakably disturbing things in the back country .
This main story is very well done and shows Colter ’s skill and his compassion , while the want of phones give the horror a toppingly solitary edge . Reenie ’s write up also gets to move forwards , with an increasing numeral of hints about the unfeigned business with the Client being drop . I would say that it ’s clear this will be the big finish of the time of year , but give how Bobby ( Eric Graise ) returned this week , I ’m no longer willing to make lucid prediction about where the show is going .
Bobby Is Back, But It’s Not A Big Deal - Even Though It Should Be
After Weeks Missing, This Feels Like A Bizarre Resolution
Bobby — Colter ’s impossibly smart as a whip tech guy wire — has been missing since Episode 9 , with his place at the data processor chair taken over by his cousin Randy ( Chris Lee ) . Over the trend of those six sequence , he is only mentioned double : first , when Randy appears , and it is revealed that Bobby is dealing with a " home thing " , and thenagain in last calendar week ’s episode , where Colter finally expect Randy if he has heard from Bobby .
At first , itseemed likeTrackerwas just croak to be writing Bobby off , supersede him with Randy . Then it seemed like Bobby may actually have a mystery of his own , and Colter was going to have to track him down . In the goal , make him just re-emerge , at his desk , bickering with Randy about computer setup , feel incredibly anticlimactic .
Perhaps that ’s because I let my fan - theory brain run away with me , butTrackeris a show that lends itself to rooter theory — just look at how they are tantalize out the situation with Colter ’s dad . Almost nothing is said about Bobby ’s absence other than that he is " read it one day at a time " .
In some ways , this feels almost like I ’ve miss an instalment , one where Colter tracked Bobby down and save him . I want to be vibrate that Bobby is back , and I did very much enjoy the sibling - esque banter between the cousins , but after being MIA for most of the 2nd half of the time of year , Bobby deserved a handsome homecoming . Hopefully , we ’ll get some deeper account to come , and some more of Bobby and Randy as a couple .
“The Mercy Seat” Is A Great Example Of Cabin-In-The-Woods Horror
Leaving Details Up To The Imagination Is A Great Way To Make It Even Scarier
The main plot line in the episode is a outstanding instance of whatTrackerdoes best – creepy and vaguely paranormal backwoods execution — and it more than have up for Bobby ’s disappointing issue . It launches straight into the action , and reach Colter a luck to smooth in his best environment , although I was surprised to see that he does n’t clock a tripwire without assistant . peradventure he ’s been spending too much prison term mess with crime family in the bountiful metropolis !
What really deserves a honorable mention , though , is how wellTrackermanages to pass out the latent hostility and the fear in this one . While some element mat up a minuscule predictable ( yes , the mathematical group of more or less strange - look vernal the great unwashed who just happen to be in a lonely cabin in the woods are return me serial killer vibration ) , it stayed safely on the beautiful horror homage closing of the spectrum , never slue into boring territory . And for once , Colter only spends a duo of shots with a gun in his hand , which is a refreshing change !
What really merit a mention , though , is how wellTrackermanages to draw out the tension and the fear in this one .
Tracker follows lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw as he navigates the country as a reward seeker. Utilizing his expert tracking skills, he aids private citizens and law enforcement in solving various mysteries while grappling with issues from his fractured family.
The good part was that Father Ammon ’s ( Sean Bridgers ) pervert games are never revealed in full . Amelia ( Ariana Guerra ) alludes to " terrible matter " , and there are plenty of reports of missing people — the titular " mercy chair " — but the show never spells the repugnance out . Are Ammon and his boys torment anyone who rove into their route , shooting them and leaving them for dead ? What are the " game " and divinity they refer to ? By not answer any of those questions , we ’re left to come up with whatever horrors populate in the non-white turning point of our minds - and those are the most dread .
Up Next: “Memories” Takes Colter To Reno
Randy Gets To Step Out From Behind The Desk
Next week , it looks likeTrackeris going to be giving Randy the spotlight , with an installment that connects to his past times - translate the full verbal description below :
Randy enlists Colter ’s services for his ex-husband after her best friend goes missing following a Nox on the townspeople in Reno .
From the promo , it looks like the two are head to Reno , to run down a char who goes wanting after a show at a strip club , and Randy is here to check that that Colter does n’t go it alone .
This may well be another installment that is a reasonably square find - the - bad - guy cable , but the alternative to give Randy a bigger role is an interesting one . This could be a direction to give Randy an exit — he finds that really , this business is a bit too dangerous for his liking , heads out , and leaves Bobby back in the professorship . However , it seems more potential that this may be about yield Randy a more permanent billet on the squad as a pal , the Robin to Colter ’s Batman .
The episode is also very probably going to continue to expand on the situation with Reenie and her client . This was another focus of " The Mercy Seat " , with intimation at more secret to be revealed , although it ’s unlikely the answers are going to occur just yet . or else , I ’m expect to see a little more drip - feeding on this storyline , while Bobby and Randy sink into conscientious objector - work on Team Tracker , and Colter , of course , saves the twenty-four hours .
