Faile reveals that her female parent was a Darkfriend , swan to suffice the Dark One . Her female parent , Deira , reveal this to Faile herself as she seek to sway her daughter to become a Darkfriend too ; shocked , Faile made the mistake of telling her brother , who confronted Deira and was kill for her goodness . This , it seems , was the whole reason Faile left dwelling house to begin her search for theHorn of Valere . It ’s a shocking import , and it feel like a tip that Darkfriends really do lurk around every corner . But it ’s also a major modification from the Word .

This give Deira ( and , by extension , Faile ) a very different backstory to the playscript . In Robert Jordan ’s singing , Deira was an influential Saldean noblewoman who was absolutely devoted to her husband . Her honey for her husband made her a problematic friend for Rand , who she fear would get her hubby kill ; they both tragically died in battle .
It would be an exaggeration to call Deira an antagonist for Rand al’Thor as theDragon Reborn , but she certainly was n’t an friend . But that was the beauty of Robert Jordan ’s history ; people do n’t return into bare roles , just as they do n’t in ordinary life . Now it seemsDeira has been changed quite a bit , and there ’ll be a meaning impact .
How The Wheel Of Time’s Deira Change Could Impact The Show
It ’s reasonable to assume this is setup , with Deira actually serving as an foe later on inThe Wheel of Time- notably when the show gets around to sending Rand to Illian . At the same time , though , it ’s difficult to reckon out exactly how this story will be changed ; Perrin and Faile interact a lot with Deira in Jordan ’s book , and both already know she ’s a Darkfriend . This could make for further change down the road , with Amazon ’s iterate perhaps keeping Perrin and Faile off from Rand for a little long so he can inadvertently allow a Darkfriend to serve among his suspensor .
